Spomenik is the Serbian term for monument. But the great monuments that can be found in former Yugoslavia are inadequately described. The almost forgotten 26 buildings remind of the theatres of war of the Second World War and symbolize the strength of the socialist republic. The futuristic monuments commissioned by Tito in the 1960s and 1970s tear down traditional ideas of what a war memorial should be. The book contains the stories of the 26 works, their geographical locations and series of pictures. And so the bizarre monuments return to the future.
